Friday Feature - Larissa from Fabric of my Mind - HAF

Today I am proud to feature a friend that I met at the Handmade Artists Forum. Her name is Larissa and she is one talented lady. She actually has two shops at Handmade Artists...one is called Reef Botanicals and this shop is the one where you will find all of the candles and other bath and body extravagances that are made by her and her husband, Eric. Today, though, I will be featuring her other shop called FABRIC OF MY MIND. Friday Feature - Thunder Rose Leather - HAF Shop

Today's Friday Feature artist is a relatively new comer to the Handmade Artists Forum and Shop. Welcome... Thunder Rose Leather. The handmade artists behind the name are Debbie and John; and they live in a small community outside Sedona, Arizona.

Debbie and John have been working with leather and beads for more than 20 years making functional art. Yes I said functional. It can actually be worn or used and it is so gorgeous. Just take a look at some of the items I chose to post here today.

I never had the opportunity to get to know Janelle as she had already left her many friends much too early when I arrived on the scene at HAF. However, I can tell by the loving way she is mentioned, that she was a terrific person, artist, and friend to many. Just read her BIO:

Janelle was a passionate lover of handmade and a tireless promoter.She was also an active member of our community. On her passing, we have experienced a great loss. Janelle left a hole in our group and our hearts. Janelle was unique in many ways, but what she did with a piece of wood was remarkable! Though she may be gone, her talent, passion and art remain in the pieces she so lovingly created. All of the proceeds from this shop will be contributed to her estate. New Items in My HAF Shop & a Story

Have you ever gotten a song in your head and just could not get it out? Well...that is exactly what happened to me recently and it has caused me some distress. It isn't a bad song....as a matter of fact...I happen to like it. But...nothing I did would make it go away. I guess you would like to know what the song is...well...it is 'The Yellow Rose of Texas'


                       There's a yellow rose in Texas that I'm gonna see
                       Nobody else could miss her not half as much as me
                       She cried so when I left it was like I broke her heart
                       And if I ever find we never more will part.


Since I couldn't get the song out of my head...I figured maybe I should do something..maybe I was meant to....I don't know....plant a yellow rose.....so I did just that. I have a brand new yellow rose planted in my garden. A pretty little thing she is....but the song didn't go away.

What do you do when you can't get a song out of your head? I really need to know. This was very distressing.

Anyway...I ended up crocheting a Yellow Rose coverlet. This baby is constructed out of 30 - 12 inch squares...which makes it a whopping 5 feet by 6 feet. Just take a look:
